Donna's Spaghetti/Pasta Sauce

Home made pasta sauce with ground beef and hot sausage-try it on spaghetti or in lasagna.
Ingredients
- 1 lb bulk hot sausage
- 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
- 3 tsp season salt
- 2 tsp pepper
- 3 cups coarsely chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp sweet basil
- 4 Tbsp Italian seasoning
- 2 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 28 oz cans diced tomatos
- 3 28 oz cans tomato sauce
- 8 oz baby portabella mushrooms, sliced
- 3 6 oz cans tomato paste
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

Method
Using a large stock or soup pot, brown sausage and ground beef on medium to high heat. Add onions and stir and cook until onions are translucent. While meat is cooking, add seasoned salt & pepper and other spices. Stir. Add diced tomatoes and mix well. Then add sliced mushrooms and mix gently continuing to cook over medium to high heat, stiring occasionaly. Add tomato sauce; continue to cook and stir. Add tomato paste and stir. Add brown sugar, and stir. Continue to cook over low heat for at least 30 minutes, stiring occasionally.
Notes: The longer this recipe cooks, the better the flavor, as the ingrediants have time to mingle. Serve over your favorite pasta or make a mouth watering lasagna.
